SO WHO INDOCTRINATED THE DOCTOR?
Kirralie Smith is the creator of the halal choices website, shopping guide book and phone app and an expert on halal certification of foods and supermarkets in Australia www.halalchoices.com.au
It is reported that Tareq Kamleh was attending the Thornlie mosque just weeks before joining Islamic State in Syria and claimed to have given up drinking and womanising for his faith. “At the time, he was one of the most immoral people I knew, in terms of promiscuity at least”, said one colleague.
He was not a poor, disenfranchised young person despite that we are told only poor lost souls are attracted to ISIS.
He was and still is a doctor. He was, or appeared to be, intelligent. He had many opportunities before him in this great, free country we call home. He has turned his back on money, opportunity, security and freedom in Australia to join ISIS. He is now asking others to join him and take up their role in jihad for Islam.
He has reconnected with Islam and now wants others to do the same.
The Thornlie mosque is a part of the Islamic Council of Perth Western Australia. On its website they state one of their objectives is, “To establish, own and manage mosques, Islamic Centres, Schools, Colleges and other educational institutions for Muslim children and adults of Western Australia”.
Another objective is to, “raise funds through various activities”.
One of the ways they raise money is through halal certification. On their “about halal” page they begin by declaring that, “Islam is not a mere religion. It is a way of life with rules and manners governing every facet of life”.
This is the same website that contains the President’s report which states, “... during the year ICWA has made ongoing donations to Syria but because of the difficult civil conditions, the donations were through Al Imdaad charity, to ensure that no recriminations could be directed at ICWA”.
What recriminations would they be?
It doesn’t really matter whether the doctor was radicalised by this mosque or not. They failed to recognise at the very least the danger this man presented as an intelligent and capable member of their community. He is now even appealing to others to join him.
You may want to give them the benefit of the doubt. You may even be happy to financially support this mosque and others like it. I am not. I do not want to support any mosque in Australia with my finances and that ought to be my choice.
I have never been called a racist bigot for not giving money to the Catholic church or even the Salvos and yet there are whole pages set up against me (and others) because we don’t want to support halal certification.
The choice to buy or not buy halal certified goods is becoming increasingly more difficult because so many companies continue to pay these often unnecessary halal certification fees and refuse to respect the customer enough to include that information on their labels.
It needs to be user pays and it needs to be clearly labelled so consumers can make their own choice.
