PETA CREDLIN WHERE ARE YOU?
Four-time Walkley Award winning political commentator and Churchill Fellow, has returned to the fray over concern that the integrity of news dissemination is continually being threatened by a partisan media.
She has wheat dust in her veins, red Mallee dust in her hair, calluses on her palms and a Mallee root for a heart. I have made no secret of my political admiration for her. She is the one person who could not only win any Liberal seat but would unseat the disastrous Turnbull as Leader in a heartbeat, and do it with a long-term success that is rarely seen in the Liberal Party. But she should not contest Bennelong as it would appear to be a “me too” move.
Certain to be aced
There is little doubt, in my opinion, that Kristina Keneally will take Bennelong from John Alexander, and quite handily.
The old powerbroking crooks Keneally will need to distance herself from
Keneally was elected NSW State Labor leader as a sacrificial lamb going into an unwinnable State election. Maxine McKew, another media far Lefty from the ABC, took the Bennelong seat from PM Howard and lasted one term in an uninspiring performance before tennis champ John Alexander regained it for the Libs in 2010, held it again in 2013, and once again in 2016 despite Turnbull’s loss of all that Abbott had gained.
Alexander has not managed any sort of promotion during his unspectacular tenure.
Devilishly politically cunning, she got Mark Latham sacked from Fox
A protege of crooks, Eddie Obeid and Joe Tripodi, Keneally will need to overcome an association with the worst NSW Labor could offer in terms of corruption. It is widely known that Keneally accepted the poison chalice of Premier with the permission of, and at the behest of, Eddie Obeid. She is arguably smart enough to extricate herself from her gaoled former Party and Cabinet crooks.
Peta Credlin has so far refused to publicly entertain a tilt at politics but I detect a glint of stimulus stirring in her eyes when it’s mentioned. The Left media are promoting the Stick Insect as a Turnbull alternative... hmmm you can't get dumber than the frying pan into the fire scenario!
But it would be fascinating if a retiring Tony Abbott was offered the Chief of Staff’s role in Credlin's office.
Bennelong is not a safe seat of any colour. It is widely cosmopolitan with a high Chinese component and has more than its fair share of latte sippers and gangrenous Greens.
Alexander has worked hard to keep a ten per cent margin over Labor. That margin will be lost to Keneally’s charisma, media profile and GetUp guile.
Without the magnetic talent of Credlin the end for Turnbull is nigh,
…and the Party with him.
