Literary Giants of a Different Age

Stephen Quinton

Stephen Quinton's extensive research in the education sector spans 30 years and he is published globally. Stephen was born in Pambula NSW in 1952. He is now retired in Perth Western Australia. His website and blog address is:

Rudyard Kipling is one of the best known of the late Victorian poets and storytellers. He received the Nobel Prize for literature in 1907.

Yet even with such high honour, many detractors neglected his work shortly after his death due to his unpopular political views. Literary critics however, recognised the power of his work. William Blackburn wrote in Writers for Children:

"His unrelenting craftsmanship, his determination to be 'master of the bricks and mortar of his trade,' compels respect, and his genius as a storyteller, and especially as a teller of stories for children will surely prove stronger than the murky and sordid vicissitudes of politics."

"Although Kipling's overall career still awaits judicious critical re-evaluation," Blackburn concludes, "the general public—and especially the young public—has long since rendered its own verdict.

His status as a writer for children is rightfully secure, and none of his major works has yet gone out of print."

One of Kipling’s most famous works is a poem titled “If”. It inspires and provides encouragement on how to live one’s life.

The poem takes the reader through various ways in which to rise above the adversities that life throws in one’s way at some point.

Throughout the poem, the author gives the reader multiple scenarios, both positive and negative, along with a glimpse into how to conduct oneself.

Kipling presents the poem as an if-then scenario and leaves the “then” until the final two lines, revealing to the reader that if they are able to do all that was just mentioned, they will not only have the world at their fingertips, but they will also be a “Man.”

While reading the poem, it will be apparent that it sums up the life and ethos of the man many loved, and affectionately knew as Lazza. I added one word in brackets in the very last line, which I believe more accurately reflects what I came to know about the great Larry Pickering over the past three years.

by Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you

 Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,

 But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

 Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,

Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,

 And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;

 If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster

 And treat those two impostors just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken

 Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,

 And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings

 And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,

And lose, and start again at your beginnings

 And never breathe a word about your loss;

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew

 To serve your turn long after they are gone,

And so hold on when there is nothing in you

 Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,

 Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,

If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,

 If all men count with you, but none too much;

If you can fill the unforgiving minute

 With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,

Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,

 And—which is more—you’ll be a (great) Man, my son!

How to stop Jewish jihad
Analysis: They are no different than ISIS; there may only be a handful of these Jewish terrorists, but it is enough to divide Israeli society and lead to war with the Palestinians and the rest of the Arab world.
These are not hate crimes, this is religious-messianic terrorism, committed by people who view themselves as acting according to God's true will. In simpler words - this is Jewish jihadism, identical in every detail to Islamic jihadism, except that, fortunately, this is not a mass phenomenon, the likes of which we have been seeing both in our region and in Europe.
It may only be a handful, perhaps even 200 Jews, but in a small country like Israel - which exists atop a volcanic crater - such a handful is enough to tear Israeli society apart from within, and lead it to war with our neighbors the Palestinians as well as the Muslim world at large. The Jewish Sicarii, the fanatic political assassins in the Second Temple period, have already led to the destruction of the political and religious Jewish entity, and sent us into exile. This could happen again.

Harry,just a thought. What about posting one of Larry's cartoons from way back when,on a weekly basis.I am sure they would go over really well.That is if you have access to them,that is.

Go gently Larry Pickering knowing how much you touched the lives of us your fellow Aussies who enjoyed every word you spoke and enjoyed every cartoon that came from your magic pen! Bless,

This is a great country we live in.
It needs to be protected.
But no one dares say the "Islam" word.

Deborah Tavares Disclosed the Plan to Burn Up Northern California Before it Happened
Deborah Tavares presented this information to the Sonoma County Board Supervisors at an Infrastructure Recovery Workshop earlier this year, before it all came to pass.

New post from Harry.

Oh boo hoo. The Chaser Boys (geriatrics) are peeved because the ABC won't be picking up their wizened election year adolescent comedy coverage this time around. Cry me a river, arseholes:

The least costly and reliable power supply, is the only criteria to be used when making judgments in that area. Anything else is madness.

Snow in Canberra six weeks out from Christmas and Dwarf Head Shorten's whole election platform is about going to war with carbon dioxide - because the planet is in danger of an imminent global warming induced inferno.

Jewish Absurdities and Jewish Atrocities
White societies are presently foundering under a relentless and largely unresisted assault by our rabidly hostile racial enemies – the jews. The institutions of the upmost importance for sustaining White culture are thoroughly infested and subverted by “g*d’s chosen people,” who are using their pernicious control to deracinate the White race, rendering the vast majority of our people unaware and apathetic about their fast-approaching eradication as a distinct people. The schools, publishers, broadcast media, internet companies, movie industry, courts, and government bureaucracies have become little more than semitic satrapies, all of which operate in uncanny concert according to the plans made plain in the Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion.
In spite of vast amounts of easily observable and objectively verifiable facts, alarming numbers of White people continue to believe the most inane and blatantly false kosher lies – largely out of fear that a shrill, sanctimonious jew, overflowing with animus and hatred, might call them names. This nightmarish combination of ignorance and complacency is the result of an ill-considered bargain offered by the rootless jewish carpetbaggers, in which we have accepted deleterious luxury, empty hedonism, and infantile instant gratification, in exchange for giving up our future.

Concerns of fire agencies across the country about an increased risk of blazes caused by more consumers rushing to adopt lithium-ion battery technology are being investigated by the Australasian Fire Authorities Council.

The peak body for fire, emergency services and land management agencies is working to address the risk of more severe fires as homeowners install battery storage to complement solar panel systems.

Advances in technology and federal and state government rebates have pushed the price of battery storage systems down rapidly in the past few years.

A new assistance scheme in South Australia will see 40,000 households access $100 million in state government subsidies and $100m in low-interest finance from the Clean Energy Finance Corporation to help pay for the installation of home battery and solar systems.

However, authorities across the country have warned of damage caused by solar-panel fires that were more severe if they included a lithium-ion battery.

The batteries store energy created by solar panels to be used when the sun is obscured.

Latest available figures show Queensland firefighters attended at least 64 fires caused by solar panels between the start of 2015 and July last year; Victoria’s Metropolitan Fire Brigade attended more than 40 fires caused by solar panels between 2012 and last year; while Fire Rescue NSW responded to seven fires caused by solar panels in 2016.

What could possibly go wrong?

Am looking through a Sydney Gregory's from 1973. Not a single mosque listed. Nearest thing to it were the Welsh Presbyterians. Oh, happy days.

RCR Tomlinson, Perth based engineering company has been placed in the hands of administrators after failing to recover from a disastrous solar energy project in Queensland, this company was founded more than 100 years ago, my dad actually worked for them at one stage - poor old Ernie Tomlinson would be rolling in his grave at this news.

The ABC today it scare tactics or the truth ??? Solar battery pledge a savvy move by Labor, but can it survive Coalition scare tactics?

The Coalition dubbed Labor's pledge to subsidise batteries for households "pink batts to pink batteries", seeking to trigger memories of Kevin Rudd's fatal home insulation scheme, proving Scott Morrison's a much better negative campaigner than Malcolm Turnbull ever was. That is the totally unbiased view of the far left ABC.

"......................For years, Erdogan has recorded Saudi Arabia planning ISIS attacks, arming them with chemical weapons and one more thing even more important.
On February 25, 2016 a squadron on Saudi Royal Air Force F16s and F15s arrived at Incirlik Air Base in Turkey. There, they were met by Israeli instructors and technicians who had arrived two days earlier in two C130 cargo planes from Israel.
The Saudi F16s were modified to carry nuclear weapons that Saudi Arabia had purchased from Israel between 1993 and 2005. Strike groups were established, combining F16s and F15s for deployment against Iran using nuclear weapons.
Initially negotiations began when as early as 2009, Saudi Arabia offered Israel use of their air space in nuclear strikes against Iran.
Only a year earlier, Turkey had contracted with Israel to have F16’s at Incirlik modified for nuclear weapons. Israel had promised Turkey that the 80 or more B61 thermonuclear weapons stored on the base could easily be seized and that Israel had the necessary software, supplied by Bush era national security advisor Richard Clarke, to activate and use stolen American nukes.
Upon learning this, President Obama had America’s nuclear arsenal in Turkey disabled, all fissionable material removed from the country.
There is much more to tell including Saudi, Israeli cooperation in testing small yield nuclear weapons in Yemen and testing the first W54 glide bomb over Yemen.

Any chance the stupid , low wattage brain power people who call for executions could call for these crime bosses and criminal gangs in Australia who organise for these drug mules, to be investigated?
You wasting your time with the Jew bankers as they are untouchable.

It’s not really a secret who the British “sources” were that were illicitly spying on Trump and me and others. They are fighting to keep this private. I will lay them out here:

1) Tobias Ellwood
2) Stefan Halper
3) Alexander Downer
4) British Embassy in DC

Bitcoin turns 10 this year, but there's not much to celebrate. Its price has tumbled to near $US4,000 ($5,500), down 30 per cent in a month, 50 per cent in six months and almost 80 per cent since December.
