JULIA GETS OFF SCOT FREE?
... um, it depends on Bruce
Four-time Walkley Award winning political commentator and Churchill Fellow, has returned to the fray over concern that the integrity of news dissemination is continually being threatened by a partisan media.
For three years, despite a mountain of damning evidence, I have always maintained Julia Gillard will never be charged, let alone see the inside of a jail. Commissioner Dyson Heydon’s scathing criticism of her is like water off a duck’s back to Julia and she now says an apology is in order. Yes, it is... so when do we get one?
Gillard should never have been Australia’s Prime Minister, but Labor is rarely, if ever, elected in its own right. It’s far too Left an organisation for the average Joe Blow to stomach, so how the hell do they ever win Office? They do it with people like Whitlam and Rudd, faces of apparent reason, who can build electoral momentum against tired conservative governments.
Once in Office, Labor will work to destroy their nominated figurehead. Whitlam was destroyed by those beneath him, so too was Rudd. It’s only then that we discover the true face of a Party run by hard Left, crooked union ideologues. It soon implodes of course, but the damage it leaves each time is immense.
Rudd’s use-by date was up the minute he won Office, so the Queensland Left and the NSW Catholic Right handed Gillard the knife while the Victorian Socialist Left watched on with delight. Unfortunately Gillard could not be elected in her own right and she rushed even further Left to the waiting arms of the Communist Green loons for support... and here we all are.
The MYEFO (mid-year economic and fiscal outlook) makes for some sobering reading and it makes Hockey’s current budget measures look like an attempt to hold back a tsunami with a bucket of sand.
If only Rudd had left Joe with $20 billion in the bank like Costello had left Rudd.
Labor’s refusal to allow meagre remedial savings through the Senate means one of only two things; either they want to see Australia join Greece or they want revenge for the way Abbott exposed Gillard and Rudd for what they really were... one was an ideologically committed economic vandal, the other a pathetic, psychopathic fool, yet both are now able to financially take personal advantage of a looming recession they created.
The very thought of Shorten, Plibersek, Bowen and Macklin back in charge is the stuff of nightmares. That the very same people can now prevent a landslide-elected conservative Government from fixing their mess is inconceivable. But there it is.
Yet the same old aesthetically challenged Labor heads are bleating, “But it was Rudd who needed to navigate us through the GFC”. Bloody hell, he nearly started another one!
Our coddled banks were underwritten yet were never exposed, China hardly flinched, its growth rate remained at eight per cent, we were in the middle of a mining boom, our balance of payments were on the improve, the housing market was booming and we weren’t spending $6 billion a year on illegal Islamic boat people, well, not yet.
We were in a remarkably good position to financially capitalise on a US and European meltdown, but Rudd decided we should join them by bringing our debt and deficit closer to theirs.
Since the Rudd open-borders experiment, disability pensions, free legal aid and welfare have ballooned to 30 per cent of our total budget spend. And of course Gillard followed up with an “off budget” NBN, an unfunded Gonski and NDIS, all of which were entirely reliant on a continuing mining boom. Remarkable foresight.
Gillard couldn’t go for a coffee without tipping someone $100 million and her election promises involved a crazy $80 billion of borrowed funds that Labor now says are Abbott “cuts”.
Blimey, it only hurts when you laugh!
Now the clever Labor Party reckons our low interest rates are the result of their good management! WTF? The low rates are the result of the RBA trying to get the economy kick started after two terms of Labor. Rock-bottom rates, due to Labor’s fiscal mismanagement, means cutting them further now can have only a negligible effect... view zero rates in Europe and near zero in the US.
So, is the disgraced Gillard also guilty of defrauding over $1 million in funds from the AWU, is she guilty of having used those funds for renovating her property, is she guilty of having twice lied to a Commissioner for Corporate Affairs, or having lied to union members to convince them to allow their funeral fund to be shifted to Bruce Wilson’s control, is she guilty of having forged a POA and having set up the AWU/WRA slush fund?
Yes of course she is, and Slater & Gordon had a similar view, otherwise they would not have sacked her.
But it’s not all over, not just yet.
Bruce Wilson will be charged and, if he decides to defend those charges, Gillard will find herself once again deep in the union sewer with multiple other witnesses to be called by the prosecution.
More likely Wilson will take a plea bargain or plead guilty, (just as the HSU’s Michael Williamson did) thereby avoiding any cross examination that further embroils Gillard and exposes where the funds went to.
[Former ALP President, Michael Williamson stole $20 million from his HSU but had ample time to shift funds, outside the claw-back period, to other family members before he pled guilty to stealing a mere $1 million, avoiding a court case and further interrogation. When he emerges from jail he can still enjoy the fruits of his fraud.]
Ralph Blewitt will be safe and his evidence is of little value on its own anyway, but combined with at least five other credible witnesses, it could spell curtains for Gillard... but first Wilson will have to decide to mount a defence, and that’s unlikely, because you can bet your socks a deal has already been done between Bonnie and Clyde.
There is a concerted belief within the legal fraternity that Gillard should not face trial but in conservative halls it’s more a belief that the Office of Prime Minister should not be publicly sullied.
