JAMIE PICKERING SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER
Four-time Walkley Award winning political commentator and Churchill Fellow, has returned to the fray over concern that the integrity of news dissemination is continually being threatened by a partisan media.
The Gold Coast is awash with drugs and if you want the celebrity status of owning nightclubs then it’s best to know the law well. I won’t go near night clubs whether they are owned by family members or not, they are dangerous places where, like VLAD laws, mere association can be a crime and it’s impossible to know the ages of who you are speaking to.
Personally I object to being sniffed by dogs, manhandled by Maori bouncers and paying insane prices for alcohol. The two girls involved (now 18 and 19) were invited to a party in Jamie’s unit by a certain tennis player where communal amounts of cocaine were available. Apparently the two girls partook of the free party drug.
Jamie may have supplied the cocaine but was oblivious as to who had used it and in what amounts. It appears that when the two girls arrived home that night they were clearly under the influence of something. After interrogation they admitted to their parents that free cocaine had been available at what they believed was Jamie’s unit.
The parents then reported the girls’ admissions to the police. After the police had interviewed the girls they found two credible witnesses prepared to bring charges against Jamie. Jamie told me that he wasn’t even there and had never met the girls but that made little difference legally. It was his unit and reportedly his cocaine so the police had a water tight case if the girls stuck to their story.
It’s hard to find a party on the Gold Coast where drugs are not freely available and when a night club owner is involved it gives the police a free kick whether the club owner is in attendance or not!
Now I’m not defending him, he should have known better, but every underage kid I know skites about his/her use of a false ID to gain entrance to night clubs, so how can anyone tell their ages and how can anyone monitor drug consumption on such a large scale.
Jamie aged 51 (bloody hell, he’s older than me) says he is a changed man and has joined the fight against the proliferation of the evil drug ice. I suggest that this would be at the instruction of his solicitors. But I don’t doubt his good intentions because anyone who has witnessed how ice has destroyed good lives would want to help.
I no longer recognise former good friends who, because of ice, have sunk so low they have little hope of recovery. It's a hideous drug.
So if you hold a party at your home, even if you are not there, make sure that no drugs are available or you too might have a visit from the police accompanied by two girls who are now prepared to be honest about their ages.
Drugs are here to stay (as was alcohol) the only difference that police can make is in the price... it goes up with every seizure and we the home owners suffer more break ins.
Oh well, you don’t stop loving your kids just because they are stoopid.
