IT’S TRUMP’s CASABLANCA
...and he is not choking
Four-time Walkley Award winning political commentator and Churchill Fellow, has returned to the fray over concern that the integrity of news dissemination is continually being threatened by a partisan media.
Last year I quoted Ted Cruz as a short priced favourite to win the US Presidential nomination and suggested you could “write your own ticket” about Trump. The Republican machinery would never allow a cowboy like Trump to disrupt what has become a comfortably corrupt organisation, or so I thought. But Trump is overwhelming the lobbyists and protected interests like no-one thought possible and now he cannot be ignored.
Kasich and Rubio must now depart the race, leaving Cruz and Trump to battle it out until the convention. The GOP hates Cruz only marginally less than Trump, but Trump has the goods, the numbers and has brought a new dimension and a life to a dying Party.
Trump has spent very little of his own money on the nomination race but a general election will require hundreds of millions he is not prepared to spend so he needs the Party behind him. He is now for the first time calling on their support without mentioning that he can easily destroy the entire Party if he doesn’t get it.
It’s a new game, a new era, that will affect Australia and the rest of the world. The destructive PC Left has just about run its race. The stupidity of Germany’s Merkel and the EU’s policy of borderless nations is unravelling. Only now is Europe demanding that the boats be turned around yet no-one here credits Abbott with the original initiative. But they’re very quick to adopt the erroneous suggestion that he was rogering his Chief of Staff.
I thought the internal power of the GOP could easily counter the Trump tidal wave. I was wrong. He is unstoppable and can’t be denied. His style of Presidency will be akin to Ronald Reagan’s insofar as Reagan did not involve himself in mundane politics, instead he built a competent Administration that would reflect the clear will of the people and then stood back and let it happen.
It’s not the Republicans who will need to rebuild but the Democrats... Eight years of Obama has destroyed the Dems to the extent that an unknown Independent Communist is pushing Hillary Clinton in the nomination race.
He cannot win of course, but neither can Hillary... she is dead meat.
Just as the Democrats underestimate the public anger at government incompetence so too do the Libs here. Turnbull’s fiddling with the Senate shows he has no idea of the political revolution bubbling below the surface.
Hope I’m around to see it!
