GUESS WHICH ONE'S THE THREATENED SPECIES
Four-time Walkley Award winning political commentator and Churchill Fellow, has returned to the fray over concern that the integrity of news dissemination is continually being threatened by a partisan media.
Greg Hunt is fighting a losing battle over global warming and his renewable energy targets. They might be manna from heaven for hyperventilating Green warmists but these expensive targets are bullshit to Abbott and gaining less and less traction with realists. The globe is certainly not warming and, if it was, we should be over the moon about it.
While China opens a new coal-fired power plant every six weeks, we sit here playing with our antipodean dongers hoping the wind keeps blowing on our visual and noise polluting windmills and the sun keeps shining on our bird- and bat-shit covered solar panels.
Social engineers love green targets. But renewable energy doesn’t need targets, it’s already happening, hydropower has been here for yonks and it’s renewable.
Cars need far less petrol, battery technology increases daily and, unlike the rest of the world, we haven’t even started on a nuclear clean energy program yet.
Erwin Jackson, deputy chief executive of “The Climate Institute” said on Friday that, “Opponents of the RET say it is a market-distorting subsidy but,” he said, “that’s only true if you don’t believe in climate change.” Well, guess what Mr Jackson, most of us don’t believe in your climate change because, what you really mean is global warming, and if anything, temperatures have fallen over the past two decades.
Pickering Post contributor Viv Forbes said recently, “The costly RET can have no measurable effect on global temperatures. It imposes needless costs on poorly utilised back-up facilities, and increases transmission costs, network instability, capital destruction and operating losses for existing generators. Germany has already showed how to create renewable energy chaos – let’s not follow their sad example.
“And if the Green Senate refuses to abolish the Act, the Government can use its regulatory powers to change the renewables target from 20% to 2%, and the time-limit from 2020 to 2120.”
My contribution was, “It’s likely to be Abbott’s Brere Rabbit moment... ‘Please don’t throw me into that bloody awful green briar patch’.”
Well, let’s not beat around that briar patch and tell the truth: Abbott is a warming denier as are most intelligent people. His Environment Minister, Greg Hunt, is a believer in anthropogenic warming and therefore has been rudely left out of talks to abolish the RET.
Joe Hockey’s claim that, “We might have to look at other ways to reduce the deficit” was clearly aimed at precious green garbage and any green undertaking Abbott may have previously reluctantly agreed to.
If the Greens want to obstruct the budget in the Senate then they can cop this RET obstruction right up their floppy fairy arses.
Renewable energy is somewhat of a motherhood statement that everyone will agree to, but the Left believes we are not to be trusted and need to be target-regulated. Even tho’ economics will ensure everything will eventually run on what the Greens call “renewables” anyway.
Give it time, it’s happening all by itself and without additional billions the Greens want wasted.
The fact is that everything is already renewable, including wood, water, sand, ore, bauxite, oil, coal, grain, fruit, vegies, guano, even carbonated diamonds... it’s just a matter of time.
And time is something Greens have always had a problem comprehending.
