CONSUMER WATCHDOG STILL HUMPING SWANNY’S LEG

Larry Pickering

Four-time Walkley Award winning political commentator and Churchill Fellow, has returned to the fray over concern that the integrity of news dissemination is continually being threatened by a partisan media.

“It’s worth looking at”, said Julie Bishop when asked about Twiggy Forrest’s suggestion that regulation of Australia’s iron ore production could restore prices. PM Abbott and Treasurer Hockey rejected the proposal out of hand after hearing from the ACCC that Twiggy could face prosecution for even suggesting Australia’s miners should form a "cartel".

Wayne swan appointee, ACCC Chairman Rod Sims, says in his own mission statement that his role is to,
“Give Australian consumers the same rights and protections wherever they are in Australia.
“Simplify (by usurping section 51 of Consumer Law) and reduce business compliance burdens by replacing provisions set out in 20 existing national, State and Territory laws with a single national consumer law; and,
“Create a national enforcement regime, with consistent enforcement powers for Australia's consumer protection agencies to take effective action for consumers.”.

Hmmm, reduce business compliance burdens eh? What a load of frog droppings!

Mr Sims’ role is to is to keep an eye on domestic businesses who may be ripping of local consumers, and that’s an honourable Labor Party objective, but Mr Sims should keep his pointy little Left wing nose out of international trade matters.

Now that Swanny doesn’t have his surplus problems he’d be quite happy to see the Coalition suffer from a collapse in ore prices.

Sims’ intention to decide if Twiggy should be charged with an offence for merely suggesting Australia should regulate its production to maintain the value of its ore, is outrageous and yet another example of Labor’s out of touch appointees.

Julie Bishop was right, we should certainly look at the proposal (although she has since backed off, supporting the Hockey line).

International trade has always been, and will aways be, about price-fixing. The 12 member OPEC cartel, led by Saudi Arabia, is currently using oil production levels to fix prices. It is currently trying to sabotage the West’s self sufficiency in energy by flooding the market with an oversupply of oil, forcing prices down below US producers’ ability to survive.

Barack Obama is using an executive order to assist OPEC with his refusal to allow the completion of the Keystone pipeline from Canada.

China stockpiles high-grade Australian ore and purchases cheaper Mongolian ore to regulate the price. All countries indent (forward purchase) minerals to alleviate their exposure to price hikes.

South Africa’s De Beers diamond syndicate, operating as a "producers' cooperative", exercises its formidable power over its own industry. It was reported in the 80s to have dumped a million carats in low-grade, rough diamonds into the ocean to maintain world prices.

After the price per carat had almost halved in one year in the 90’s, the South African syndicate of companies openly agreed to limit production. Why not?

In fact, De Beers was able to gain a long-sought-after foothold in the emerging Canadian diamond industry in early 1999 when it reached an agreement with BHP and Canada's Dia Met Minerals Ltd, who had agreed to dump 35 per cent of their output.

It’s the same with all international trade, from minerals to consumables.

The stupidity of the ACCC’s Rod Sims is breathtaking. If the world’s wheat prices collapse and growers have silos full of unsold grain, should they not consider reducing the acreage they plant the following year? What is the difference with iron ore for Christ’s sake? And anyway WTF has it got to do with a domestic consumer protection agency like the ACCC?

The overlap of Labor appointees who still survive in Government agencies demonstrates why, economically, Labor was so inept.

If Australia is to be a competitive player in international trade then we had better play by international rules and Mr Sims had better start concentrating on domestic consumer protections, as is his job description.

Has he turned his mind to the halal certification rort running rampant through our retail outlets, pushing up prices and supporting foreign fighters?.

Now there’s something that IS within his terms of reference.

Just about every commodity exporting country has some mechanism to "control" the price, to the extent to which it is possible, Doesn't always work QED Opec but makes a lot of money, at times.

The Arabs have been doing this cartel underproduction thing for decades with oil. I see NO reason why we cannot do it also and bugger the high moral ground.

Come on Larry, maaate, they can't do that, what about all those directorships and other backhanders these foreign companies hand out, what about the pollies future once they've stuffed the country. Come on MAAATE!!!!

Here is hoping that NSW has more brains that we Qlnders. However I think the most ridiculous statement to date was the woman interviewing Baird from the ABC today. Q. What is your plan B if you don't get in? Duh!! Moron. Q. People are only voting for you because they say you are the Justin Bieber of NSW. Even I would have taken a swipe at her at this time, but the look on Mike Baird's face was priceless.

You get my vote for best avatar Oz. :)

LNP don't seem to realise they'll bleed more support if they allow a conscience vote. If they think they can evade responsibility by having a conscience vote they'll be sorry. We're not as green as we're cabbage looking. Homosexual marriage is important to the politically correct trendies not to mainstream Australia.

Too right Oz. We've already voted against it. Bugger marriage. :)

When is Sims going to have a look at the collusion between petrol companies, super markets and banks ripping off the consumers with their retail price maintenance, particularly with the banks and vredit cards charges

Sorry to say this Gentle Man, but are you a professional retard or just a very good apprentice?

Try that again in English .. Very slow

I both respect and admire Tony Abbott, he is indefatiquable in his mission to turn Australias debt problems and intrusion of thousand upon thousands of country shoppers into our country, who have been breaking the Australian laws, with Rape, Mutilation of Female Genitals, Paedophilia,(allowing old men to marry children) Rorting our Centrelink, having 3 or more wives and many children ripping off Centrelink, because they pray 5 times per day, and need to scheme further how to take over and dictate their traditions and culture to replace ours, ( no more Chrissy trees, scriptures in schools etc)

Sorry I asked

The Templars of the Crown

The governmental and judicial systems within the United States of America, at both federal and
local state levels, is owned by the "Crown," which is a private foreign power. Before jumping to
conclusions about the Queen of England or the Royal Families of Britain owning the U.S.A., this
is a different "Crown" and is fully exposed and explained below. We are specifically referencing
the established Templar Church, known for centuries by the world as the "Crown." From this
point on, we will also refer to the Crown as the Crown Temple or Crown Templar, all three
being synonymous.

Can you repeat that one more time

I meant to post this in the other thread but...http://www.forbes.com/2009/04/07/summary-dead-aid-opinions-business-visionaries-moyo.html I know it's from 2009 but a very nicely written summary (less than a page) of a book called Dead Aid which discusses the dependence on aid by african nations and the apalling resultant statistics. If anyone know Julie Bishop - get her to read it will ya?

We bugger bugger bugger bugger bugger bugger bugger

Land Value Tax on the unimproved value of land is a good thing. If there is such a thing as a good tax.

I have to say when I first saw Tony on the seven thirty report with Kerry Obrian and he said "not to put to finer point on it Kerry but Shit Happens he did impress me. Where has that Tony Gone?

It won't bite much longer Micky when it gets it's teeth knocked out.

Whether or not the pilot who deliberately crashed the Germanwings flight was a recent convert to Islam, we do not yet know (it doesn't take much, just saying the few words of the shahada, the first line of which is written on Obama's gold ring). But the connection to Islam is 1) the impenetrable cockpit door thanks to 911 and 2) most significantly, the massive devaluation of life that has been bought about by Islam. Moslem murder thousands of people daily so the loss of a single life is rarely reported as it used to be. Because of this, certain individuals are unable to see the value of life and how precious it is and then think nothing of murdering 150 as the pilot did.
