A HAWKISH BEN PRAYS FOR RELIABLE ALLIES
Four-time Walkley Award winning political commentator and Churchill Fellow, has returned to the fray over concern that the integrity of news dissemination is continually being threatened by a partisan media.
Donald Trump’s Jewish son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and the Kushner family will soon be given a free hand to settle the Arab-Israeli dispute. A Herculean task that has not been achieved by the West’s smartest minds. But Jared Kushner has a plan and that plan involves regional cooperation... unfortunately that sort of cooperation has never looked likely.
The West Bank and eastern Jerusalem were originally in Jordanian hands. Despite formal agreements Jordan denied Jews access to their holiest places in Jerusalem, while destroying many of those sites. The Gaza Strip remained under harsh Egyptian control.
If Kushner’s plan is achieved Trump can look forward to 12 more years. But the Jewish son-in-law boy has an almost impossible task. The West Bank is now established with Jewish settlements and it’s not widely known but 85% is populated by Palestinians who avail themselves of modern Israeli universities and welfare payments.
Five Arab armies failed when they attacked Israel in 1948 with the aim of destroying the tiny Jewish State. Armistice lines were then drawn, but they weren’t formal borders. They couldn’t be formal because the Arab world, even in defeat, refused to recognise Israel’s existence.
Despite PLO bleatings, there never was, never has been, and probably never will be, a Palestinian State.
PLO's Terrorist Yasser Arafat, rumoured to have been assassinated using polonium
The PLO, which has always demanded Israel’s destruction, was established in 1964, three years before the six day conflict that left Jordan, Egypt and Syria licking their wounds at the hands of the tiny Israeli State.
The PLO was created with the sole aim of obliterating Israel. In 1964 the only “settlement” was Israel itself and under siege from surrounding Arab States. A subsequent Arab Summit Conference in Khartoum declared: “No peace, no recognition, no negotiations with Israel".
Egypt's Gamel Abdel Nasser died trying to unite a disparate Arab world determined to rid itself of Israel.
Syria’s continuous attacks grew more frequent in 1965 and 1966, forcing Israeli families to sleep in bomb shelters. Israel repeatedly protested to the UN about the Syrian bombardments but the UN did nothing to stop Syria’s aggression — even an innocuous Security Council resolution expressing “regret” for such incidents was vetoed by the Soviet Union.
Of course Israel was condemned by the United Nations each time it retaliated. Nothing has changed since.
There are now serious moves afoot to leave the corrupted UN to its own devices, but Australia's Stick Insect will object violently as it gives her a voice from the world stage... but no-one is listening.
It took a mere six days in 1967 to obliterate the better equipped Arab armies who had underestimated Israel’s strength and resolve. They still do underestimate an Israel that could wipe them all from the map if it is attacked by any Arab State today. The hard won West Bank is now in Israeli hands and the sweating Arabs want it back, replete with improvements.
And they want the strategic Golan Heights back where they can again rain rockets down on Israel from 3,000 feet.
Shia Iran is also planning Israel's destruction. But our little Iranian dwarf, Sam Dastyari, is typical of Iran’s bluster. After ten years of fighting a weakened Saddam Hussein, Iran still couldn’t claim one inch of extra land.
An Obama-supplied path to nuclear weapons for Iran means that Israel, backed by Trump, will attack and destroy them before one can be fired. Unlike Iran, Israel will do what it threatens to do, Trump or no Trump.
Baby faced Adam Scott look-alike, Jared Kushner
But Trump’s poor little son-in-law wants to carve himself a notch in history. It won’t happen, just as it didn’t happen for Kissinger and others who have tried for a lasting settlement.
The truth is that Arab States and their terrorist arms will not accept that Israel should even exist,
... and that’s a hard starting point for a peace deal, even for a Trump.
