Rising Seas are Nothing New

The most careful analysis of world sea levels suggests they are rising at between zero and 2mm per year. Measurements to this accuracy are questionable as they are complicated by changes in ocean currents and wind direction, and shorelines that may rise and sink.

Sea levels are never still, but with global temperatures flat and snow cover and polar ice steady, sea levels are probably as stable today as they ever get.

However, we still have creative climatists concocting complex computer models that predict dangerously rising seas to justify their goal to ban coastal development and to revive their failing war on carbon.

Alarmists should study earth history.

At the depth of our recent ice age, just 16,000 years ago, a thick sheet of ice covered much of North America and Northern Europe.

So much water was locked up in ice that humans could walk on dry land from London to Paris, from Siberia to Alaska and from New Guinea to Australia. The River Rhine flowed across a broad coastal plain (which is now the North Sea) and met the Atlantic Ocean up between Scotland and Norway.

There was no Great Barrier Reef as Queensland’s continental shelf was part of the coastal plain, and rivers like the Burdekin met the ocean about 160 km east of its current mouth. Most of its ancestral river channel can still be recognised beneath the Coral Sea.

Then, about 13,000 years ago, with no help from man-made engines burning hydrocarbons, the Earth began warming. This was probably caused by natural cycles affecting our sun and the solar system, aided by volcanic heat along Earth’s Rings of Fire under the oceans.

The great ice sheets melted, sea levels rapidly rose some 130m and coastal settlements and ancient port cities were drowned and are being rediscovered, even today.

As the oceans warmed, they expelled much of their dissolved load of carbon dioxide. The warm temperatures and extra carbon dioxide plant food caused vigorous plant growth. Permafrost melted, forests colonised the treeless tundra and grasses and herbs covered the great plains.

Iceball Earth became the Blue/green planet, supporting a huge increase in plant and animal life.

Without any zoning laws to guide them, our smart ancestors moved ahead of the rising waters and adapted happily to the warmer climate with less snow, more rain, more carbon dioxide plant food and more ice-free land.

This warming phase peaked in the Medieval Warm Era about 1,000 years ago, when sea levels also peaked. They fell during the Little Ice Age, rose slightly during the Modern Warm Era, and are relatively stable now.

Rising seas are never a lethal threat to life on Earth. The danger sign is falling sea levels caused by a return of the great ice sheets. This would quickly put high-latitude farming into the deep freezer, thus creating widespread starvation. Trying to grow crops on emerging salty mudflats in an icy climate will give some future farmers a real climate concern.

And despite World Heritage listing, when the next ice age comes the skeletons of the stranded Great Barrier Reef will become bleached limestone deposits on the coastal plain. The indestructible coral populations will abandon their marooned homes and build new reefs further out under the retreating seas.

I’M OFFENDED JULIA, WHY DIDN’T YOU ASK ME? I do really good portraits

Sydney's sister city of San Fran... or is it brother city?

Scientific truth and its real enemies today

All good stuff, Viv. Could you tell me where you got that magnificent photograph attached to your article? I am a pilot, and would love to have a large copy of it on my wall.

Another labor if that should be a surprise. They couldn't run a two seated $hithouse.

The rate at which carbon emissions warmed Earth’s climate almost 56 million years ago resembles modern, human-caused global warming much more than previously believed, but involved two pulses of carbon to the atmosphere, researchers have found.
The findings mean the so-called Paleocene-Eocene thermal maximum, or PETM, can provide clues to the future of modern climate change. The good news: Earth and most species survived. The bad news: It took millennia to recover from the episode, when temperatures rose by 5 to 8 degrees Celsius (9 to 15 degrees Fahrenheit). Could any of the alarmists comment on this please?

Are Australians Already Enslaved?

Environment Protections & Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999

The act states in s3, that
1) The objects of this Act are:
(a) to provide for the protection of the environment,
(d) to promote a co?operative approach to the protection and management of the environment involving governments, the community, land?holders and indigenous peoples; and
(e) to assist in the co?operative implementation of Australia's international environemental responsibilities

The act then states in s528 Definitions that
"environment" includes:
(a) ecosystems and their constituent parts, including people and communities

Now the meaning of the word “People” under Australian law is not defined.

The meaning of person is in the Acts Interpretation Act 1901 s 22

Meaning of certain words
(1) In any Act, unless the contrary intention appears:
(a) expressions used to denote persons generally (such as " person ", "party", "someone", "anyone", "no?one", "one", "another" and "whoever"), include a body politic or corporate as well as an individual;
(aa) individual means a natural person ;
(Very important to note the use of the words contrary and includes. Contrary tell us that this meaning applies unless there is a “differing” or “inconsistent” meaning. Includes however is a word that gathers every definition under its meaning. There can be no inconsistency of meaning, because all the contrary intentions have been gathered under that word “includes”. At no time in this Act is the word “exclude” used in any reference to free will, sovereignty, private ownership rights, etc of any kind.)

The legal meaning of “people” as defined in Blacks Law Dictionary No 1
“A state; as the people of the state of New York. A nation of its collective and political capacity. “

So, the only definition of ‘people’ we have is the legal interpretation, & the creators of this International Treaty, have been very careful not to place this over the individual, but over the collective of individuals.

Therefore, to prove you have these rules now enslaving you, you must first identify yourself with the collective.

One interpretation may be found in the Criminal Code Act 1995, where people is always defined as more than one person by implication. (More research will be necessary re this word.)

This means that when the Australian government makes rules about the environment, those rules include YOU (under the collective) in the jurisdiction.

This then allows the Australian Government to apply restrictions, orders, enforcements and the like over YOUR (under the collective) activities as defined in the UN Global Biodiversity Assessment Report.

Hence such imposed activities as Fluoride – being the imposition of a supposedly healthy activity OVER the people and the community, who of course come under the responsibility of govt via the EPBC Act 1999. They are making sure the “environment” is “healthy”.

YOU are NO longer a free will person, because the government have “stolen” your free will and replaced it with their rules.

If we go to the list of unsustainable activities that were listed on the UN The Global Biodiversity Assessment Report - they are ALL human activities.

These activities involve leisure, work, homes and food creation involving land use.

All activities, on land, are defined as unsustainable.

How then are people supposed to remain alive if every activity they perform, on land, is unsustainable.

And if any activity, on land, that sustains the People, is no longer permissible under the “global crisis” as promulgated by Gore – are the People going to be allowed to continue to have children, make personal choices as to the kind of life they wish to have, live and work where they choose, eat the kind of food they choose, etc?

Here is a list of the things that the The Global Biodiversity Assessment Report directed by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) considers Unsustainable -
Ski Runs - Grazing of Livestock: cows, sheep, goats, horses - Disturbance of the Soil Surface - Large hoofed animals, compaction of soil, reducing filtration - Fencing of Pastures or Paddocks - Agriculture - Modern Farm Production Systems - Chemical Fertilizers - Herbicides - Building Materials - Industrial Activities - Human-Made caves of brick and mortar, concrete and steel - Paved and Tarred roads, highways, rails - Railroads - Floor and Wall Tiles - Aquaculture - Technology Improvements - Farmlands, Ranglands - Pastures, Ranglands - Pastures - Fish Ponds - Plantations - Modern Hunting - Harvesting of Timber - Logging Activities - Fossil Fuels - Used for driving various kinds of machines - Dams, Reseroirs, Straightening Rivers - Power Line Construction -Economic systems that fail to set a proper value on the environment - Inappropriate Social Structures - Weaknesses in Legal and Institutional Systems - Modern Attitudes toward nature - Judaeo-Christian-Islamic religions - Private Property - Population Growth - Human Population Density - Consumerism - Fragmentation of Habitat - cemeteries, derelict lands, rubbish tips, etc - Sewers, Drain Systems, Pipelines - Land use that serves human needs - Fisheries - Golf Courses - Scuba Diving - Synthetic drugs - Fragmentation - Agricultural development, Forestry Urbanization (impervious surfaces)

The other issue to understand is that an International Treaty such as the EPBC Act 1999, is a “contractural” arrangement between two or more different parties.

If this act has effectively “enslaved” the people by removing their free will & their sovereignty, who are the other parties outside the Aust Federal Govt who now have certain as yet undetermined rights of foreign sovereignty in Australia and over the people?

When whales migrate north from the Antarctic they veer left or right upon reaching land mass near the WA/SA border coastline so I am wondering if their traditional course might have been straight through Australia when water covered most of the Earth ?

You failed to mention the absolute lies being peddled by some "experts" who claim that certain Pacific Islands are being inundated as a result of anthropogenic rises in CO2 and consequent "alarming" rises in sea levels: they all fail to address the FACT that water always seeks its own level and therefore how is it possible that some islands are experiencing more inundation and sea level rises than others? It is well known (but never mentioned) that atolls are prone to sinking - that, to quote that mega alarmist, Al Gore, IS the real inconvenient truth.

Of course stupid Shorten will open the flood gates to Muslims again. It's more votes for him. His ambition is to become Prime minister so he can have an assured and huge income for life together with his own office and staff including free travel paid for by you and me. The last thing on his mind is what happens to Australia because of his stuffups. Just compare how Australia is today compared to what it was at the beginning of Krudds reign and we have just been through the greatest export of coal & Iron ore ever. Not a thing is shown for all that work but a huge debt and massive interest costs..

I was in the Solomons last year. Sitting with a local Pollie, who was enjoying his drinks. We got onto CC/GW etc. The Pollie told me "I believe in the CC/GW because every day I see it before my eyes. You can watch the sea rise twice a day, so we know what to expect. Why do you believe I asked. We believe because lots of countries give us heaps of money to say we believe. I rest my case.....

where do you think the carbon (sic) taxes will be going?

Nasty, brutish, and short? I thought you were talking about our very own Man in a State of Nature Bill Shorten! Especially as you left out solitary and poor.

This article was in the latest Science Daily: "The rate at which carbon emissions warmed Earth’s climate almost 56 million years ago resembles modern, human-caused global warming much more than previously believed, but involved two pulses of carbon to the atmosphere, researchers have found."

Old look it's Viv Forbes, the guy that calls private property owners "vandals" because they stand up against his NGO mining buddies.

Hope you write to PM Abbott about the threat China poses to the world as written in the book you promote. Not wise to sign treaties which will give them nationals on our soil. Or supply raw materials which will come back as bombs. We've done that before.

Another nice piece Viv. thanks. why is it your stuff smacks of accurate truths, whilst so much other stuff comes over as codswallop?

In 1989 the Great Barrier Reef was core sampled and they worked out that the reef was once a rainforest 20 000 years ago .

Thanks Viv, as usual, calm clear concise considered comment. It is so refreshing after the screaming shrill sanctimonious shouting we hear from the alarmists. Rationale without insult is much appreciated, Regards

Could someone please explain why the unfounded claims of climate theorists are being inflicted on gullible school children?
