Abolish Unreliable Energy Targets

Killing the carbon tax is not enough to restore sanity to Australia’s energy policies - the Renewable Energy Targets must also be abolished.

No matter what laws are passed in Parliament, wind/solar power can never supply reliable economical grid power - their fundamental flaws are too numerous.

Their low energy density means that large areas of land must be blighted to collect a significant quantity of power.

Moreover, their intermittent supply pattern means that they cannot maintain a predictable electricity supply.

And even if some magic cheap storage system is invented, the expensive wind/solar generating facilities will remain under-utilised for more than 60% of the time, and up to 30% of any energy stored will be lost in transfers.

Finally, without storage, green power needs full backup from reliable generation plants (which must also operate intermittently).

Germany is proving that an advanced society cannot survive on wind/solar energy, even with support from French nuclear power, Swedish hydro-power, Russian gas and Polish coal.

For too long, green dreamers have forced their daft ideas on Australia’s power supply network. We need to employ real power engineers and grown-up energy technology.

The Renewable Energy Targets should be renamed “Unreliable Energy Targets” and abolished immediately.

The wind can be too light , or too strong. In heavy winds the turbines have to be shut down. Wind power has been an abject failure. Just google "disused wind farms". The rotting carcasses of many turbines are a testament to their failures. Not to mention how many majestic birds are killed by them.

The very first question put to David Suzuki on Q&A the other night night revealed this warming alarmist’s complete ignorance of the most basic facts of global warming.

Fancy Suzuki not even knowing what the world’s main temperature data sets say about global temperatures. Fancy him not even knowing what those data sets are, even when he is given their names.

The only rational response to Suzuki’s astonishing admission of utter ignorance would have been to say to him: “Sir, you are a phony and imposter. Get off the stage and don’t waste our time for a second longer.”

We need to have Angus Taylor ( Hume) stop any further wind turbines in Upper Lachlan and Yass valley.

NEW Environment Minster Greg Hunt made only one mistake when sacking Tim Flannery and junking his Climate Commission;
Hunt actually thanked the alarmist for his work.
Hunt should instead have asked Flannery how much of his $180,000 a year salary he'd refund after getting so many predictions wrong.
He should have told Flannery it was disgraceful to even now claim global warming was increasing, when atmospheric temperatures have failed to rise for 15 years.
The Labor Government wouldn't admit it, but it created Flannery's Climate Commission two years ago to scare Australians into paying their useless carbon tax.

Interesting parallel in Norway where the Conservatives have beaten Labour and promptly thrown out the Mongstat carbon capture plan. Read on: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-24014551

Why only 10% of the time? Surely on the southern coastlines the gales blow more often.

Woke up with a great idea to solve clean energy problem. Build thousands of huge treadmills around the country, geared fast enough to spin turbines 24/7 and operate them using greenies and carbon tax supporters. They would never stop like wind turbines when the wind stops, wouldn't make noise pollution, wouldn't kill birds, and would give the loonies a pleasant change to basket weaving and drinking "skinny" lattes, whatever the hell they are. They wouldn't have to worry about being skinny, the exercise in the treadmills would take care of that. All solved, now back to sleep.

Greenieloonies won't see the Polar Ice has GROWN
NOT shrunk

None are so blind as those that WILL not see

never got a bite from this errHELLO person as there is no turbines in tara only stinking C S G .

ErrGoodbye!! Fool. Thanks Viv, love the good old basic commonsense.

@ N D how long has this errhello been on the scene , if he or her are so in love with turbines there is a place up here in QLD called TARA plenty of properties up for sale where you can gaze out of the windows and listen to the music coming from the turbines 24/7 , SOUNDS LIKE ANOTHER MONUMENT TO ME.

I think that we have trolls visiting this site again! Thankyou Viv for another informative article. I concur with your views.

Good morning everyone!

Mmmm seems like Viv needs to get out more & see how wind energy is helping coastal communities. Gee Viv since when has there been a shortage of space in Oz ?? Really get out more!

AH Viv,I believe that a power station is like a fluorescent tube...75% of the energy use is inn the start up process. Therefore the intermittent use power plants to back up irregular wind power is plain wasteful and saves nothing in the long run..

Viv, Our once lovely tin roofs in Brisbane are scarred with thousands of those ugly roof panels. I hate them. If the grees have their way we will have those even uglier wind farms on every vacant lot. What a load of twat. We put pink batts in our old Queenslander. We can no longer hear the rain on the tin roof, and the house doesn't warm up in winter. Mistake.

They are indeed a blight on the landscape. The noise pollution makes habitation within miles unbearable and thousands of birds are shredded by the blades. Why the hell don't we have nuclear power stations like the rest of the civilised world? I wonder if the greeny idiots know that nuclear power is really using the heat generated by the fission of the uranium to drive steam turbines - zero pollution.

did i hear CORRECT that the con merchants that own these monstrosities are paid $500k per year from climate energy labor morons in canberra , this ANOTHER royal commission needed , if we need nuke power USE it forget about the dirty unwashed female and male labgreens

"We need to employ real power engineers and grown-up energy technology." Yes! Preferably Integral Fast Reactors. And asap!
