WAS MANDELA A GOOD FELLA?

FOOTBALL AND MEAT PIES, YES!

... but Kangaroos and Holden cars?

Free trade agreements and tariff reductions have placed Australia in a world market free-for-all where we are no longer an insulated holiday island and no longer competitive in anything other than mining. We can’t have it both ways.

GILLARD'S AWU SCAM

...why the Press ran dead

Prior to Gillard’s election to Prime Minister senior Press Gallery hacks were canvassed by the ALP Right faction to determine if her connection to the AWU fraud would “be a problem”. The Press was emphatic... it wouldn’t be!

VICPOL CLOSES IN ON GILLARD

As a misogynistic nutjob I have always believed Gillard was safe from prosecution over the AWU fraud case because of an unusual facet to her many relationships: Not one has ended in vitriol.

Joint sitting would break the deadlock

It’s doubtful Tony Abbott is toying with the double dissolution option. It’s a tortuous process with an unknown outcome that could take up the entire six months that is needed for the new Senate to take its place.

A BACKFLIP IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER

The Age called it “Abbott’s boulevard of broken promises”, The SMH called Christopher Pyne the Minister for Muddles in a “Gonski reversal”, SKY News called it a “cave-in” and a “double backflip”, The Australian called it “a fix” and news.com and The Telegraph went with, "Justin Bieber is a spoilt brat".

IS TONY THROWING THE FIGHT?

PM Tony Abbott seems content to cop a flurry of Left hooks on the chin without returning a straight Right. As an ex-boxer, and someone his electors believed gave no quarter, he appears to be taking a dive in the first and it has raised the ire of conservative fight fans.

GONSKI... WILL IT REALLY LEARN YA?

A Government in its final days and drowning in debt made ridiculously unattainable (and unfunded) social promises. It dared the then Opposition to match those unaffordable dream schemes.

THE GUILTY ARE THE MEDIA

Last week, after receiving reliable information that the prominent Labor Party figure accused of rape was none other than Bill Shorten, I wrote the following:

TAXPAYER AID IS POISON

GMH workers are paid up to $3,000 per week for tightening nuts, courtesy of billions paid to the motor industry by taxpayers. Taxpayers then switch to the more affordable and less labour-costly foreign product. Meanwhile the workers are forced to live on borrowed time. The only eventual beneficiaries are the unions who, when the industry finally fails, find another industry to ruin.

THE TRUTH ABOUT THE GONSKI SCAM

Bill Shorten's hysteria over Gonski should fall on deaf ears because I'm certain my ears weren't deaf when I heard Tony Abbott warn Gillard that her proposed Gonski scheme would not be valid unless it was a truly national scheme.

GOLF CAN BE A DANGEROUS GAME

If you like playing Asia’s best golf courses don’t take your own clubs. Minister for Immigration and Border Protection Scott Morrison said yesterday, “...taskforce Pharos is designed to catch corrupt customs officials, following a series of scandals involving agents and their links to drug importation and outlaw motorcycle gangs”.

A DIFFERENT SORT OF DEMOCRACY

As protesters burned Australian flags and effigies outside the Australian Embassy in Jakarta, shouting “death to infidels”, parliamentarians were urging President Yudhoyono to revoke the presidential decree which granted remissions to Schapelle Corby. Taslim Chaniago, of the National Mandate Party (PAN), said, “This should be done to heal the Indonesian people’s feelings at the moment.”

GONSKI WAS ALWAYS GONSKI

Julia Gillard was determined to either “buy” the September election or leave Tony Abbott with land mines that would make a dishonest man of him. Abbott was determined, at any cost, to ensure Labor did not have a third term... either way, that meant throwing another 50 billion borrowed dollars at a polarised electorate. Rudd simply went along with it.

FIGHTING A FIRE WITH A WHITE FEATHER

The UNHCR reports the number of "asylum seekers" in Indonesia seeking their assistance has increased from 385 in 2008, when Kevin Rudd dismantled our borders, to 7,218 last year. Yesterday, Indonesian police chief, General Sutarman, said his officers “would not prevent” asylum seekers on boats from reaching Australia via Christmas Island.
